BioConsult SH at the 35th Annual Conference of the European Cetacean Society

Husum,

BioConsult SH was once again an active participant in this year's conference of the European Cetacean Society.

Together with two colleagues from our partner company HiDef Aerial Surveying Ltd, Karoline Hots, Julika Voß and Alexander Schubert attended the ECS Conference in Catania, Italy.

This year's theme was “Marine mammals and human activities”, one of BioConsult SH's focal points in our research into harbour porpoises in the North and Baltic Seas.

Karoline Hots presented a poster dealing with the protection of harbour porpoises in the event of the detonation of unexploded ordnance within the marine environment.

Alexander Schubert talked about the results of investigations into the occurrence of harbour porpoises in the Pomeranian Bay of the Baltic Sea.

Julika Voß presented studies comparing different acoustic deterrents that can be used to scare harbour porpoises away from areas during offshore construction work or detonations for the duration of the noise-intensive work.

BioConsult SH's scientific focus is the basis for our independent advice. Further training as well as exchange and networking with other stakeholders, including at conferences, are therefore an important part of BioConsult SH's work.
