First drone surveys for APIS project

Husum,

In the APIS (Aerial Photogrammetric Integrative Surveys) project, drone-based species and habitat mapping is tested in the Wadden Sea National Park over two years.

Two drones (DJI Matrice 300 RTK and Wingtra GEN II) are ready for use in a salt marsh.

Resting bird survey near Uelvesbüll using our DJI Matrice 300 RTK and Wingtra GEN II drones.

The first drone surveys have taken place in April. Different types of drones were used to record resting birds at high-tide roosts near Uelvesbüll and in the Norderheverkoog. To investigate possible behavioural reactions of birds to the drone, BioConsult SH experts have systematically recorded the behaviour of the animals prior to, during and after the drone surveys.

Prior to the drone survey, traditional resting bird counts were carried out additionally to compare the results of both methods.

Please refer to our project page for further information about the project. Further information can also be found on the website of the UAM-InnoRegion-SH (in German).
