Marine and coastal ecology

The state of marine habitats as a focus of environmental research and assessment.

Research, expert reports and monitoring

Offshore wind farms, climate change, new species – oceans and coasts are increasingly affected by human interventions. With our team of environmental and marine scientists, we have been accompanying this change for 25 years with monitoring programmes, research projects and consultancy services.

Our focus is on marine mammals and birds as well as mussel beds in the Wadden Sea.

Investigations of the effects of climate change are as much a part of our activities as expert reports on the construction of offshore wind farms, piers and assessments of dredging measures on the coasts of the North and Baltic Seas. We are also involved in various monitoring programmes, such as the annual survey of seal populations in the Schleswig-Holstein Wadden Sea.

In addition to our consultancy activities, we focus on research projects. For example, in our diver projects or in testing the use of drones for mapping in the Wadden Sea.

Our office is only a few steps away from the North Sea dyke and the Wadden Sea National Park. We therefore are involved in many projects in the North and Baltic Seas. However, we also have numerous international projects – often in co-operation with our international partners – in the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, France, Lithuania and further countries. Moreover, with SPACEWHALE, the service to detect large whales with the help of satellite images, we are active in all the world's oceans.
